Thanksgiving is Only 4 Days Away!

Today I sat down and began planning my menu, thought about adding the 2 leaves to my big dining room table, and made a list of dishes other people are bringing to our house.  What was left for us to make is just the turkey, stuffing and bread!  I'm planning a healthy non-GMO Turkey day, using organic foods only and plenty of fresh veggies and low-fat food choices.  THIS year will be different.  THIS year will not be like every other year, in which I am dreading the scale the next day!

With careful planning and forethought you can prepare a delicious healthy meal for the same price as the higher-fat higher sodium one we're so used to.  Say Goodbye to the canned green beans topped with the GMO-laden fried and then canned onions, and consider a fresher approach.  Alton Brown has the best recipe and tips for preparing a turkey, and you can try yours his way and see for yourself why everyone is raving about it!  We are bringing our 20 pound organic turkey and using his recipe to make ours this year.  Below is a link for a video and below it the recipe to print out:

Alton Brown...he's smirking because his meat sauce is ridiculous.

If you're more of a recipe follower on paper, here is the link to his handwritten recipe:

Remember the Pumpkin Pie!  Pumpkins have so many great health benefits, we make pumpkin breads and muffins all year long.  Buy organic pumpkin and top it with homemade whipped cream and skip the toxins and fillers in the process.  You will notice a fresher more vibrant flavor and your heart will thank you for less cholesterol!
While your dinner is cooking and guests are arriving, turn on your crock pot and let the good smells simmer throughout your house.  I like to keep a small one simmering throughout the holidays right on the counter so my house always smells inviting and yummy!

Before you eat, remember to take a moment and count your blessings.  We all have so much to be thankful for.  I hope you and yours enjoy a fabulous Thanksgiving and fellowship with those you love!
Blessings,
 ~Bridget
